Master of Science in Information Systems (情報システム学)
Information. Business needs
it faster and more accurately than ever before. Access to
up-to-date mission critical information is vital to the strategic
interests of all businesses.
Hawai‘i Pacific University's Master of Science in Information
Systems(MSIS) degree program is designed to create a generation
of problem solvers and decision makers who are expert in the
areas of information, technology, systems design, and problem
solving with automated resources. It is a program designed
to apply the scientific principles of modern systems engineering
to the corporate need for operational, decision support and
strategic planning information.
HPU's MSIS program uses an approach that integrates key ideas
from information technology, systems management and decision
science. Through this integrated approach, students gain a
firm understanding of and appreciation for the power of information
and the systems created to supply and manage that information.
Advanced problem-solving skills(e.g. business analysis, process
reengineering, systems correctness and performance) are emphasized
throughout a program that includes: object-oriented analysis,
comparative methods in software engineering, telecommunications,
project management, client-server architectures, strategic
planning and database theories. Students can individualize
their program with elective courses such as Electronic Commerce,
Information Systems Security, Knowledge Management, Human-Machine
Interfaces and Global Systems, among others.
Program
Objectives
A student successfully completing the program will:
be a specialist in information and systems, not just technology
be comfortable with large-scale, complex problems and issues
be able to recognize the seminal ideas in information systems
and to apply them to advantage to all consumers, internal and
external.
be used to change and know how to resolve uncertain, confused,
and misunderstood conditions
be skilled in the science of building recommendations from
a intellectually sound base
be committed to the idea that people, not hardware and software,
are responsible for the effective performance of systems
understand the dynamic nature of modern organizations; recognize
that assumptions, ideas, actions, and policies must be re-validated
on a timely basis; and that flexibility is a powerful strategic
tool

PRE-REQUISITES
Students from a variety of backgrounds are attracted to the MSIS
program. Therefore, to ensure each student is adequately prepared
for the academic rigors of graduate-level management curricula,
the following undergraduate courses must be satisfactorily completed
as a foundation for graduate studies:
Research Methods and Writing (International
Students only)
f a student has not met all of the undergraduate prerequisites,
he or she may still be accepted into the MSIS program. However,
prior to beginning certain graduate-level courses, students may
be required to complete the required prerequisite courses.
Students without scientific/technical backgrounds may also be required
to take the following courses:
As active consultants, entrepreneurs, and information
systems experts, HPU's faculty in the Master of Science in Information
Systems program understand trends in I.S. management and technology.
Our faculty are both well-credentialed academics and experienced
professionals in the information systems field.
