3+1 Program with
the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic Major

Hawai'i Pacific University
and Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) have developed
a 3+1 program to enable students to enter the chiropractic
profession. In this unique program, students enroll in a three
year program at HPU and continue their studies at LACC to
fulfill the requirements for a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree.
Upon completion of their first year at LACC, students will
fulfill the requirements for their Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
in pre-medical studies degree from Hawai'i Pacific University.
Los Angeles College of Chiropractic is
accredited by the Council of Chiropractic Education (CCE)
and the Western Association of Colleges and Universities (WASC).
Under the provisions
of this program, students will matriculate at Hawai'i Pacific University
for a minimum of 93 semester hours of course work leading toward the Bachelor
of Science in pre-medical studies (pre-chiropractic), including the following
courses, or substitutes approved by the Dean of Arts and Sciences.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (36 semester credits)
Subtotal: Course work to be completed prior to entering LACC =
93 semester credits.
Credits to be transferred from LACC = 31 semester credits (minimum).
Total Degree Requirements = 124 semester credits.
Students are admitted into Hawai'i Pacific University as incoming
freshmen or as qualified transfer students who must complete at
least 30 semester hours of resident course work. Students may
apply for the Bachelor of Science in pre-medical studies (pre-chiropractic)
degree after completion of the prescribed course work at Hawai'i
Pacific University. At least 31 semester credits from LACC may
be transferred toward completion of the Bachelor of Science degree.
While enrolled at HPU, students will complete all required course
work as outlined above and described in the Hawai'i Pacific University
Academic Catalog.
The acceptance of credits via transfer or testing toward completion
of degree requirements shall be governed by current policies of
HPU. However, no more than 20 credits of required courses, and
none of the science credits required for admission to LACC may
be earned via examination. This is a requirement of the Council
on Chiropractic Education (CCE).
Los Angeles College of Chiropractic shall accept, for the entrance
date of their choice, all students who successfully complete the
HPU Pre-Chiropractic program with a cumulative grade point average
(GPA) of at least 2.75 and meet all other criteria for admission.
Students who earn less than a 2.75 GPA, but at least a 2.50
GPA, will be eligible for admission to LACC and will receive appropriate
consideration in the admission process for having completed the
HPU Pre-Chiropractic program, but will not receive the assurance
of a seat reserved for students earning a 2.75 or higher GPA.
During the first year of enrollment at HPU, students will write
a letter of intent to the Admissions office at LACC identifying
their desired date of matriculation at LACC.
Students will apply to LACC one year in advance of their desired
entrance date and will complete all required application procedures
thereafter in a timely manner, including submission of recommendations
and a satisfactory interview.
Students enrolled in the 3+1 program who successfully complete
all course work in the first two trimesters at LACC with a C or
better will be granted the Bachelor of Science Degree in pre-medical
studies (pre-chiropractic) from HPU, provided they have met all
other graduation requirements. At least 31 semester credits accepted
in transfer toward completion of the B.S. degree requirements
will be selected from among the following LACC courses:

Students shall pay the appropriate tuition and fees to each
institution for all course work taken at that institution. During
the first year of study at LACC, students shall not be registered
for courses at HPU, but shall pay any fees required to maintain
their registration toward the baccalaureate degree. Upon completion
of the fist year of study at LACC (two trimesters), students shall
be responsible for any fees regularly charged by HPU for transfer
of credits and awarding of the baccalaureate degree.
